Surfing Bolinas, February 3rd 2002.

I met Sid Wolf for surfing in Bolinas on Stupid Bowel Sunday. We hoped to have the waves all to ourselves while almost everyone else in the country was watching TV. But apparently quite a few board surfers, like us butt surfers, would rather spend a few hours having fun getting some exercise outside in a beautiful spot than watch some other guys on TV chasing each other back and forth.

I had both my Coaster (the long board) and my Pirouette (the short board) on top of my truck and after looking at the small waves I decided to take the Coaster out. (A long board works better in small waves). The beach right in front of the Brighton Street boat ramp had a lot of sand both above and below the water. This created a large soup zone with gently breaking waves on the outside. I got a few good rides right there waiting for Sid and a few other people to join me. We paddled a few hundred meters north to our favorite spot, but the waves were too small to ride there. So we paddled south to the mouth of the Bolinas Lagoon and rode the waves there where the water is shallow.
