Hardwike to Cracroft Islands, June 17th, 2015.
The weather forecast was downgraded from gale force to only strong wind, 10 to 20 knots. I got up on time and launched at 5:00 AM. At first it was worse than 10 knots with wind waves breaking over my bow. But I make slow progress. Moving at 2 knots is better than sitting on a beach doing nothing. I try to find the current but cannot find any help. I went back close to shore where I can see my progress. The wind finally started to die down and my speed rose to 3 knots. The tide was supposed to change late in the morning but the current was always against me. Then early in the afternoon the wind died completely, which was not in the forecast. I started sprinting to get as fast and as far as I could while conditions were good.
In the evening I found a beach with a very visible gap in the brush at the waterline. This lead to an old cabin site under the canopy. Little remains of the cabin but a square of rot on the ground. But access is easy and there are lots of clear areas under the canopy to set up my tent.
