The BASK Planning Meeting was held at Linda and Tom Pickford's house on the Napa River again. Like the last time we planned a paddle up to the town of Napa to have dinner at a restaurant. The paddle was uneventful but the shuttle afterwards was murder. As before, Tom took all the drivers back to his place to pick up their cars. This included Kate DesLauriers who had driven me and my kayak to the meeting in her truck. A second group of BASKers walked to the restaurant to eat. Joe Petolino and I waited around the kayaks in our wetsuits with the plan of joining the drivers for the second wave of dinner.
But it seemed to take hours before the drivers came back. The sun went down and the first wave of dinner goers were finished before we could load our kayaks. I asked Kate about the drive and she said that it is simply a long way around and back to Tom’s house. I think I could have gotten back into my dry clothes faster by simply paddling back! I resolved never to do this trip with a shuttle again!
